Volleyball Signs Newark High School Senior

The Lincoln Christian University (LCU) Volleyball Program is pleased to announce the signing of Newark High School senior (Newark, IL) Abbey Akre. Akre is the second player to sign with LCU as part of the 2013 recruiting class.

“Abbey’s name came up as somebody we really needed to take a look at,” said LCU Head Volleyball Coach Dave Donnelly, “So I went over to Newark, met her, talked with her, saw her play and needless to say, I was very impressed.  She’s a great all-around individual, an excellent student, fabulous player, just the kind of person we like to have in our program. We’re glad to have her.”

Akre is coming off of a very impressive prep career at Newark High School. She was labeled as one of the most decorated competitors in Newark Volleyball history as she leaves the program being ranked in the Top Five of six different career statistical categories. As a senior, Akre was able to lead her team to a very impressive 29-5 record, as they lost in sectional play to the eventual 1A state champion, Keith Country Day. During her senior year, Akre posted impressive statistics, including 247 kills, 60 serving aces, and 290 digs, while also earning The Times Volleyball Player of the Year honors. She is the daughter of Ron and Tami Akre.
