LCU Defeats Emmaus at Home

Lincoln Christian University (LCU) hosted the Eagles of Emmaus Bible College (EBC) on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Laughlin Center' Gaston Arena for their last regular-season men's and women's games of the year.

Women Win Defensive Battle

Like their November matchup, the LCU women (9-12) prevailed with a 51 - 37 score over Emmaus in  a defensive battle.

Playing without sophomore guard and leading scorer Tatiana Colclasure (Effingham, IL/Effingham High), it was tough for LCU to score.  The team shot 27% from the floor throughout the game, and made just five three-point attempts.  The 29 LCU turnovers did not aid their offensive cause. LCU made up for their offensive woes on the defensive end, holding EBC to scoring only 11 points in the first half.   LCU was able to hold EBC to 22% shooting from the floor and forced EBC into committing 25 turnovers.  LCU dominated on the rebounding chart as they won that battle, 60 - 46, which included 23 offensive rebounds.

LCU junior guard Moriah Kirkpatrick (Mt. Vernon, IL/Mt. Vernon Township) led all scorers with 23 points as she shot 9-22 from the floor.  Kirkpatrick also had 11 rebounds in the game, giving her the second double-double of her season. Sophomore forward Alicia Carson (Gobles, MI/Bloomingdale High) followed Kirkpatrick with an impressive game of her own, recording 12 points, 25 rebounds, and nine blocks.  Carson was one block away from a triple-double.

Men Dominate

The LCU men's basketball team (11-14) beat EBC in November, and they dominated EBC again on Saturday, winning 74 - 37.

LCU started out hot, putting on a run and going up 15-3 to start the game.  EBC was able to cut the lead to eight points before LCU went on another run and extended the lead. Going into halftime, LCU was ahead of EBC, 34-19. The second half was much of the same as LCU doubled EBC's total offensive output on the game, winning by 37 points. Freshman guard AJ Kuhn (New Carlisle, IN/Community Baptist Christian) put in a stellar second half performance, scoring all 14 of his points in the half. LCU shot 41% from the floor, while holding EBC to 28%.  LCU also dominated the rebounding battle, 40-25 and forced Emmaus into making 26 turnovers on the game.

In his last home game, LCU senior guard Brady Cremeens (Hopedale, IL/Olympia High) led his team, once again, with 27 points on 9-20 shooting.  Kuhn chipped in with his 14 points on 6-7 shooting.  Senior forward Nick Radcliffe (Fox Lake, IL/Grant Community), got his first start of the season, contributing eight points on 3-7 shooting.
