Berry Joins LCU as Baseball Head Coach

LCU Athletic Director Mac Ingmire is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonathan Berry as Baseball Head Coach.

Berry comes to LCU from the Bloomington/Normal area where he serves as an area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), overseeing 18 "huddle groups" and acting as a resource to area coaches. Additionally, Berry has coached at Bloomington High School, where he worked with their freshmen since 2008.

Berry is a graduate of Wheaton College, where he played and started for four years. He was twice honored as an All-CCIW Conference selection and was team Captain his junior and senior seasons. Berry also brings some international experience as both a coach and a player with Athletes in Action, with whom he played games and taught clinics in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Holland, Belgium and Mexico.

In his announcement, LCU Athletic Director Mac Ingmire said, “John brings great experience to our baseball program and has the resources to launch a new era of growth through recruiting and athlete mentoring.”

Berry takes over for Interim Baseball Head Coach David Upchurch who filled the vacancy during the 2014 spring season. Upchurch will resume his position as Baseball Assistant Coach which he held for two years prior to his Interim Head Coach position.

LCU’s School of Undergraduate Studies is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and has been approved for membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) beginning fall 2014.
