LCU Baseball Falls in Season Finale
The Lincoln Christian University (LCU) baseball team traveled to Elsah, Ill, and Principia College (PC) Tuesday, April 29, for an evening game. This was a make-up game from very early in the season and the final game of LCU’s 2014 season.
LCU (1-16) started junior pitcher Matt Krause (Mt. Zion, IL/Mt. Zion HS) who worked for nearly the whole game, getting relieved only at the final throws. In the first seven innings Krause battled with the Principia batters, giving up three runs. The Red Lions got their scoring started with a with a two-run homer from junior Ty Unger (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln Community HS) in the third inning and added two more in the fifth, to give LCU the lead at 4-3. That lead evaporated under a landslide of runs in the bottom of the 8th when Principia drove home 11. The wheels fell off defensively as the Red Lions sent three batters to first after being hit by pitches and two runs scored on passed balls. The game was called when Principia scored its 14th run. Lincoln Christian fell with a final score of 14-4 in the season finale.
