Wood Named Dean of Adult & Graduate Studies
LCU Provost Clay Ham, PhD, has announced the hire of Dr. M. Shane Wood as Academic Dean of the Hargrove School of Adult & Graduate Studies, effective June 1, 2013. In making the announcement Dr. Ham states, "Dr. Wood comes to the position as an accomplished online instructor and someone passionate in his support of LCU's mission. He brings a unique balance of enthusiasm, forward-thinking, and collaborative leadership."
Dr. Wood fills the position left open one year ago, when Dr.
Tom Tanner answered the call to serve as Director of Accreditation with the
Association of Theological Schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Don Green
and Stephen Collins served very capably as Interim Deans during the search period
and are happy to welcome Dr. Wood as he assumes the leadership position.
Dr. Wood has served as an Associate Professor of Organizational Leadership at Florida Christian College since 2010. Before that, he served Nebraska Christian College as the Chief Academic Officer (2003-2010) and as an Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministry (2000-2003). For several years, he has taught as an LCU adjunct professor in the MA in Organizational Leadership program and the Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program. He is a graduate of Ozark Christian College (BBL and BTh), Lincoln Christian Seminary (MDiv), and Regent University (PhD in Organizational Leadership).
Dr. Wood is published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies and the Baltic Journal of Management. He is an active member of the International Leadership Association and the Academy of Management. He also has full-time ministry experience (youth, administration, and preaching) in Illinois and Iowa, and served in interim ministries in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri.
“I was drawn to this opportunity because I completed my PhD as an adult learner and through the distance-education medium,” says Dr. Wood. “I appreciate the challenges and the prospects that exist with today’s technological advances. I see my role as continuing the important role LCU has played in helping meet needs in the adult education area as well as fostering opportunities on a more global scale. With advancing technologies, LCU can provide, not only knowledge to today’s learners, but wisdom for life from the quality people that serve through the Hargrove School.”
Adult and online education are increasingly important and rapidly expanding. The heritage of LCU’s Hargrove School of Adult & Graduate Studies aligns significantly with this reality. As the new Academic Dean of Adult & Graduate Studies, Wood hopes to continue expanding programs in a way that meets the needs of adult and online learners so that LCU can continue to nurture and equip Christians with a Biblical worldview to serve and lead in the church and the world.Lincoln Christian University’s Hargrove School of Adult & Graduate Studies became the University’s third school in 2009, a result of the eight year growth of LCU’s LincUp degree completion program. It is a school for Christian adult learners who want to become more effective in their chosen professions through programs delivered in non-traditional ways and taught from a Christian worldview. The Hargrove School offers undergraduate and graduate degrees delivered on campus in Lincoln, Illinois, at extension sites in Illinois and Nevada, and online to students all over the world.
