In game one of the double-header, LCU continued the trend of giving up an early run in the bottom of the first inning. LCU responded in the second and third innings by scoring a run in each inning. LCU sophomore pitcher Micah Wolfe (Matoon, IL/NW Ohio Univ.) took over and did not allow PC to score a run between the second and sixth innings. During that time, LCU pushed their lead up to 6-1. In the seventh inning, the bats began connecting with the ball as LCU doubled their score by putting up six more runs. LCU gave up one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning, then closed out the game.
The second game was a different story for the two teams. As in the first game, PC scored a run in the bottom of the first, but that was the only run scored in the early innings by either team. In the fifth inning, both teams came alive offensively as LCU scored two runs and PC scored one. PC pulled ahead by scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, compared to LCU’s one. LCU sophomore pitcher, Joey Burge (Lincoln, IL/John Wood CC) took the loss giving up three earned runs.
From the plate, LCU was led by Wolfe, who hit 3-5, including a double and a triple. He also recorded three RBI’s on the day. Sophomore Ty Unger (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln Community High) also went 3-5 from the plate with a double and one RBI. For PC, junior Spencer Clevenger (Chesterfield, MO) led the way by going 3-6 from the plate.
