LCU Baseball Loses to #2 Florida Christian
Red Lions baseball went up against
NCCAA II #2 ranked Florida Christian College (FCC) on Wednesday, March 27, 2013,
marking their second stop on their week-long Restoration Week road trip. FCC (11-15)
controlled the game throughout and pulled away to win, 15 – 2.
LCU (4-9) had an early one-run lead in the top of the
first inning. From there on, the game was controlled by FCC as they
scored at least one run in every inning except for the sixth. LCU
started sophomore Micah Wolfe
(Matoon, IL/ NW Ohio Univ.) on the mound,
but Wolfe had trouble containing FCC giving up 10 earned runs in his
3+ innings pitched. FCC had their biggest inning in the fourth
when they rattled off seven runs, forcing LCU Head Coach Chris
Headrick to bring in sophomore pitcher Joey Burge
Wood CC) as the reliever. On the game, FCC dominated the hits category
as they had 14 hits compared to LCU’s two. LCU also committed
three errors compared to FCC’s one.
Two bright spots on the game for LCU were provided by sophomore
(Saint James, NY/Smithtown, NY) and senior Justin Walen
(Shelbyville, IL/Shelbyville High). Liga hit a double as he went 1-2 from the plate. Liga also scored LCU’s two runs. Walen
came in towards the end of the game and pitched a scoreless last inning,
something that had not been done up to that point. Starting for FCC, freshman Angel Domenech (American High) received the win as he pitched for four innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out 10
of the 12 batters he faced.
