New Book to Honor Dr. Robert Lowery

Robert A. Lowery, Ph.D., Dean of Bible and Theology and Professor of New Testament in the Seminary, was the invited key note speaker
at Ozark Christian College’s Preaching and Teaching Convention in February. At the conclusion of the convention, Dr. Lowery was presented
with the announcement of a book being written in his honor. Dr. Lowery has been a devoted teacher, mentor, friend, colleague, and
scholar to those at Lincoln Christian University since 1975.
"Dragons, John, and Every Grain of Sand: Essays on the Book of Revelation in Honor of Dr. Robert Lowery" is meant to be a title that describes Dr. Lowery’s approach to Revelation. Divided into three sections of seven chapters each, the first section, “Dragons” covers thematic studies in the book of Revelation. The second section, “John” focuses in on the difficult passages in Revelation. “Every Grain of Sand,” the last section, applies the book of Revelation to the Church, and is named for Dr. Lowery’s favorite song by Bob Dylan adding a tasteful twist to the title and making it more meaningful and personal. For those unfamiliar with the song, the lyrics portray a scene of storms of life and the seeming chaos that we endure, yet, God is always faithful, he is always persistent in caring for us, even down to “every grain of sand.” Shane Wood, one of Dr. Lowery’s former research assistants, developed the idea of this festschrift (literally a “writing party”) and composed a group of former students, teachers, colleagues, and scholars to direct and write a work that would represent Dr. Lowery and the work he has accomplished and influenced. Though this book is written for Dr. Lowery, his teaching and training fingerprints will be seen throughout the pages of this text. “Dragons, John, and Every Grain of Sand – Essays on the Book of Revelation in Honor of Dr. Robert Lowery” will be released this year. |
