Option Three - U.S. Academic Certificate
This option is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. An Academic Certificate in TESOL, along with an undergraduate or graduate degree in any discipline, provides solid preparation for effective classroom teaching in other countries and outside of the public schools in the U.S. It is a helpful skill for church planting in inner-city communities, Christian campus ministries, prison evangelism, and community service in the States. Also, it enables those completing the program to teach in colleges, universities, and public and private schools outside of the U.S. Resident international students may supplement their undergraduate or graduate degrees with this academic certificate to enhance their ministry and employability upon return to their home countries. Finally, the U.S. Academic Certificate in TESOL provides an excellent opportunity for university graduates to come study in a Christian environment for a year or two, complete the certification process, and take classes at LCS in Bible, Theology, Missions, Counseling, Church History, or Christian Education.
The Academic Certificate requires five of the TESOL courses listed. ES 324/624 and ES 325/625 are required. You may select any of the other three courses to complete the certificate. Also, ES 400/700 TESOL Practicum is required, for a total of eighteen (18) credit hours.
The TESOL Program Coordinator will work with each student to provide the best possible practicum experience in a location of interest to the student. We are currently working cooperatively with a number of stateside and overseas missions organizations.
