This graduate-level, academic certificate option requires 18 hours of graduate TESOL courses (listed below). The courses required for the TESOL Certificate are offered as the first five courses for each MA TESOL cohort. The sixth course is the Practicum experience which entails 100-clock-hours of TESOL experience to be completed at a location convenient to the student. Students have the option of continuing on to complete the MA if desired. As with the online MA, students will take a 2-week online training course prior to beginning the TESOL courses. The courses listed below constitute what is required by the IL State Board of Education (ISBE) for a Secondary ESL endorsement. The ISBE also grants a bilingual endorsement with the successful completion of these courses along with the successful completion of a bilingual exam. Note: state requirements vary. This Graduate TESOL Certificate also meets the criteria of TESOL International for an academic certificate. TESOL Certificate Courses: ES 620 Theoretical Foundations of TESOL ES 622 Introduction to Linguistics ES 623 Cross-Cultural Aspects of TESOL ES 625 Methods and Materials in Teaching ESL/EFL ES 626 Assessments and Testing for ESL/EFL ES 700 TESOL Practicum Please consult with the program director, Miriam Windham, for further information. The cost is the standard tuition rate of $399 per credit hour. |
